Activision Dedicates Third Studio to Call of Duty Franchise
Written by Philip Wednesday, 18 November 2009 19:18
It's no shock that Modern Warfare 2 is already a best-seller, but what many people don't know is that a third developer will begin creating new iterations in the Call of Duty franchise. According to a recent article in the LA Times, Activision has assigned the rights to development of the Call of Duty franchise to a third, unconfirmed developer besides Treyarch and Infinity Ward:
"As Activision seems to be discovering this year with Guitar Hero, there's danger when a title is overexposed with too many iterations. Nonetheless, the publisher has aggressive expansion plans for Call of Duty. Although Infinity Ward and Treyarch have produced sequels in alternating years since 2005, the publisher now has a third development studio working on future versions."
Well, would you look at that.
Philip: Meh....I think that two developers doing Call of Duty games on different years is enough. You may also add the fact that Treyarch's Call of Duty games are simply not as awesome as Infinity Ward's Call of Duty titles. Hopefully, Treyarch will make their next CoD iteration something memorable. Otherwise, one developer doing Call of Duty is fine already. However, I do hope that this third developer will be creative and NOT make a World War II game. Please be more original.

COD3 had a matchmaking system before IW ever got around to it and lets not forget about Nazi Zombies... Treyarch did a damn good job on their last 2 COD games.
