Since the company's switchover to pure software development, SEGA has presented its titles, both past and present, in a number of formats and on a number of platforms.  With so many ways to get their dose of SEGA goodness, many gamers may not be aware of the legendary game maker's PlaySEGA online gaming site.  Basic membership is free, and allows access to ad-sponsored content without the ability to save game scores. Paid VIP membership delivers an ad-free experience as well as access to a number of features including classic SEGA games, custom level design, and the ability to earn Rings, which are analagous to XBL's Achievements or PSN's Trophies. To further sweeten the deal, the good folks at SEGA are throwing in a gratis (not Gravis!) joypad, as noted by Kellie on the SEGA America Blog:

If you signed up for a 3 month VIP subscription on PlaySEGA, you’ve either already received your limited edition controller, or you will be receiving it soon. We got ours into the office a few days ago, and I’ve been playing games with it to see how different it is from the keyboard. (I know, my job is hard. :) )

As you can see, the controller looks pretty cool.  And you can't beat the price.  Taking into account this offer and my enthusiasm, I'd say a PlaySEGA is in for a noticable uptick in membership.  So, if this little piece convinces you to try PlaySega, make sure you let them know who referred you.  I want some free Sonic boxers or a Tails fur suit.
