Game2Movie: Metal Gear Solid and Left 4 Dead

Welcome back to the Game Movie News Roundup, folks! Your bi-monthly dose of game to movie adaptation news. Yeeeehawwwww!

First up, it looks like the Metal Gear movie has hit its first, and possibly final obstacle. According to a recent interview with Collider, producer Michael De Luca is reported as stating that while the parties involved (himself, Hideo Kojima, Sony Pictures) where on the same page with wanting to get a Metal Gear movie made their “agendas” didn’t seem to be compatible. While Collider states that sources site money as the main issue (Sony only being willing to pony up 40-80 million for the project, which is pocket change and would relegate this to the bargain DVD bin at Wal-Mart), from what I gathered from De Luca’s quotes is that his vision and Kojima’s vision for the project aren’t jiving. I get the feeling De Luca may want to stray to far from the source material for Kojima-san’s taste. Given the already cinematic scope of Metal Gear 4 and its fervent fan base, it’s understandable that Kojima would want a stricter adherence to the game. I can understand De Luca's approach, given the convoluted and sometimes downright ridiculous plot lines in MG, so Kojima may need to back up a bit if he really wants this to get made and not turn away the big crowds. So, it looks like the project is on indefinite hold if not dead in the water.

Alrighty, next up we have word of a fan made Left 4 Dead movie in the works. It’s still in production and they are obviously on a shoestring budget, as their site has a link for donations with the added benefit of your name being added to the list of “Associate Producers”. The teaser trailer is very short, with little more than a couple of shambling zombies and a quick glimpse of the main characters. While I can applaud their enthusiasm for the project, I can’t help but be skeptical of a project that would be so creature effects heavy (especially regarding creatures such as Tanks, Boomers, and Smokers let alone the run of the mill zombie). Although many talented directors (i.e. Peter Jackson) and fan films have risen from the ranks of B movie horror (anyone seen the Batman vs Predator vs Alien fan film? SIIIIICK!), so my skepticism could be misplaced. Here’s hoping they have a very talented effects team.
Hispanic! At The Disco: Someone with a deep pocket book (I'm lookin' at YOU, Zack Snyder) has got to jump on the Left 4 Dead band wagon. Zombie apocalypse movies are always a draw when done right.
