Dev Spotlight: Q has become a PSN favorite for fans of the PS3. This is the 4th game in the series following Pixel Junk Racers, Monsters and Eden.

Instant Impressions:

While I have been impressed with the style, audio and creativity of the Pixel Junk series of games I always found them to be tough to play. Eden nearly cost me a PS3 controller due to the difficulty. Going into Shooter I expected the same level of hardcore play but instead I found out that Q created their most creative and fun game yet.

Pixel Junk Shooter combines a number of gameplay styles to form a very unique formula. We have the obvious two stick shooter for those who love geo wars but then we get a good dose of puzzle, platform and even lemings style gameplay. Combine this with an amazing physics engine and you have something special. This game is fairly hard to explain but let me do my best.

You are on a mission to save your fellow workers who are stuck below the surface of a strange planet. Your goal is to rescue these men with your ship using the power of your wepons and your mind. Many workers can be saved just by flying over them and flinging out your catcher to pull them to safety. Others are stuck near lava or behind walls. One thing to keep in mind is that water is your friend while lava is not your friend. You use the power of water to turn lava into rock which can then be shot through in order to swoop in and be the hero. You can also use water to cool off your ship if you have been spending too much time around lava.

You really need to see this game in motion and thankfully the game comes packed in with the great youtube video recorder/uploader right in the options. See a video I was able to create in a matter of minutes and have the game upload directly to youtube. The video shows the very first section of the game which shows off the amazing style and physics the game has in store for your. Trust me when I say beyond this point the game gets crazy.

Anyone looking for one of the most unique and creative puzzle / two stick shooter games or even downloadable game for that matter should check this game out. No demo yet in the PSN store but they have promised that one is on the way. Until then check out the video I made below and really take note at the physics and how the water reacts to my ship and my weapons as I use the water to save my fellow workers. Imagine where they could take this as you progress through the game. So far in my opinion PIxel Junk Shooters is already by far the best in the series.

Instant Impressions: Pixel Junk Shooter Dec 21 2009 07:38:59 I downloaded this game last week and I have to say I'm impressed. Just the way the did moving about this small little planet finding different areas that create a little brain-teasing obstacle for you to figure out with the different environments is awesome. One minute you're avoiding the lava like pool and the next minute you're hopping in the machine that turns your ship into a heat resistant beast.
