If you were hoping that Harmonix was going to be working on Rock Band 3 or a game starring a classic old-school rock band, you may be disappointed. It appears that during Spike TV's annual Video Game Awards, Harmonix revealed that their next project is Green Day: Rock Band. There will be a variety of mixed reactions, for sure, but nevertheless, the devs are doing a really good job making the in-game band members look like their actual selves. Check out the trailer below (Note: I apologize for the poor quality. I searched and could not find a good trailer.):

Philip: Really? A Green Day Rock Band game? This was pretty unexpected, considering that the last Rock Band game starred a group that just about every rock lover on the face of the planet respects. Green Day is a very different story. Yes, they have been around for over 20 years, but are they really considered to be as classic as say, Black Sabbath, The Who, or even (yes, I'll say it, Ethan) Led Zeppelin? While Green Day is (in my opinion) okay, they shouldn't have their own game before old-school classic rock bands get their own. A Green Day Rock Band would be more respectable if they had retired, but they can still record several more albums before their swan song. Anyway, wake me up when Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, and Queen get their own games.

Green Day: Rock Band is Announced Dec 15 2009 14:50:29 agreed...I like Green Day and all, but just give me their albums as DLC (or at least a few track packs). I don't think a full game dedicated to them is really necessary.

I can understand giving them an AC/DC track pack sort of deal (hell, even AC/DC deserves their own full game), but a full game is an utter failure. As Axe said, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and any other good classic rock bands should come first. Raise your hand if you want Megadeth: Rock Band. *raises hand*
