Updates, as of 2:12pm EST yesterday, have hit Modern Warfare 2 for PC. Via Steam, the update addresses a couple key issues, listed below:

• Care Package, Emergency Airdrop, and Sentrey Gun marker grenades sprint speed normalized.
• Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry.
• Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s.
• Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and 'elevators'.
• Mouse latency tweaks for more mouse movement consistency.
• Fixes to prevent various texture and XP hacks.

We have yet to hear from Robert Bowling or Infinity Ward about a date for consoles to mirror the most promising changes (grenade sprint speed and 1887 fixes). The most recent notification from the studio was via Bowling's twitter account on January 14th.

[Regarding the care package speed fix:] "I don't have a date for that update, but it will be addressed."

Brandon: I'm glad the 1887s are finally being completely balanced. I'm also pleased that IW has conceded that the speed granted while carrying a killstreak grenade is unreasonable and is changing it. Here's to updates.

The M67 fragmentation grenade, which is used by most of the military and COD MW2, weighs 14 ounces - less than a pound. The MK3A2 concussion grenade, which is the stun grenade in MW2, weighs 15.6 ounces - still less than a pound. The M18 smoke grenade, which is my best guess at the MW2 grenade, weighs 19 ounces - a little over a pound . From what I can best tell, the killstreak grenades in MW2 are closest in style to the M67, but are probably just M18 smoke grenades with red dye. Therefore, you should actually run EVEN FASTER when carrying a frag grenade. Just saying.

If IW thought that people should be able to sprint faster with a red smoke grenade, they wouldn't be changing it. They obviously have seen it's an oversight.
