Saboteur Brings the Breasts, New Purchases Only

Saboteur, the final in-house developed title from Pandemic Studios, will feature a bit of visuals that gamers will only experience if they purchase the game new or spend $5 on DLC. Titled "Midnight Show," the additional content will feature the girls of Belle de Nuit, a Parisian strip club serving as players' home base, walking around without their tops should gamers flip the "Nudity" switch in the game's menu.

The retail game will ship with the code used to enable the menu switch, but access can be purchased via the DLC for $5.
Will the purchase be worth it? That's for each of us to decide. There's very little extra offered in the content, which requires an EA Online user account to purchase. Aside from the mild nudity, a secret basement area is opened up in the club where players can get lap dances and play a gambling mini-game. For those that were planning to purchase already, or were on the fence of a retail pick-up, this could possibly seal the deal. For gamers that rent or borrow from friends, you'll have to pony up the $5.

Brandon: Any incentive developers can give to keep people purchasing new is fine with me. If every studio had a "Nipples for New" purchase program, Gamestop might just go out of business. In all, choosing between Abraham and Babe-raham Lincoln is a pretty obvious choice.

Dec 04 2009 04:14:15 5 dollars for lapdances, topless animated women, and gambling. Call me crazy or something...but I believe that I'll stick to Mass Effect (It has all that packaged anyway...)

Dec 04 2009 13:52:43 IMHO, requiring a used game buyer to purchase DLC that was included for free in a new copy is the best way to offset any losses development studios may see from the 2nd-hand market. Even with the DLC purchase, used-game buyers will still be getting a deal on older titles.
As for the nudity, I could take it or leave it. I'm just glad that game developers are taking risks on more mature content for adult gamers like myself. I've never given any credit to the "but our kids will play this" argument regarding M-rated games (it's like saying "but our kids will watch this" about any R or above rated movie). Kudos, Pandemic. I wish I could support your company by buying this game, but alas, you are no more. |
