The Scourge Project Hits Consoles, PC In 2010

Spanish developer Tragnarion Studios are set to release there new four player co-op experience The Scourge Project on XBLA, PC (via Steam), and the Playstation Network in March of 2010. Players will step into the shoes of a member of elite mercenary unit Echo Squad with up to three other players or AI controlled bots as they take on the power hungy Nogari Corporationon behalf of the Tarn Initiative. Each mercenary will feature unique special abilities as well as an individual story that will be revealed through flashbacks that will reveal each merc's motivations for taking on such a dangerous mission.

The Scourge Project will also feature 16 player mutliplayer including Team Deathmatch, Deathmacth, Capture the Flag and a mode called "Frontier", which for my money is probably going to he a "Horde" type mode given the popularity of that type of feature in shooters these days. There isn't any indication as to the mechanics, but from the game play stills you can infer that there is a cover mechanic, a cooldown meter on your weapons (which look eerily similar to the weapons in Mass Effect), enemy radar, Ambrosia powered abilities (given the blue Ambrosia meter on the hud) and Gears of War type boss battles (read: big, ugly monsters that require massive amounts of lead in their faces before dropping).

The Scourge Project is slated to be an episodic adventure, with the first two episodes being available at launch and the next two to be available soon after for download. Here are some of the stills off of the company site, which look pretty impressive given that Tragnarion's most recent venture was the puzzler Doodle Hex for the Nintendo DS.

Hispanic! At The Disco: Think Gears of War meets Mass Effect and you have a good idea of how this is gonna look and probably play.  Once concern I do have is how much of my hard drive space this is gonna chew up. Between movies on Zune, Avatar crap and other various memory munching features on the Xbox, I'd hate to have to start deleting game date to make room. Guess it may be time to pony up the dough for a bigger hard drive.
