Wii Shout: This Is Where They Went

Last week, Nintendo released a large list of upcoming games for the Nintendo Wii. Also released last week was my Wii Shout titled “Where Do We Go From Here?” I'll admit it, I was a bit fed up with the lack of news coming from the Wii front about games targeted at my type of gamer. Now, I'm not totally happy with this list, but it does calm me down a lot and I am pretty excited for quite a few of the games. Here are the ones I am most excited about and believe other gamers will be as well:

Atari
Ready 2 Rumble Revolution - March 17

EA
BOOM BLOX Bash Party – Spring
Grand Slam Tennis – Summer

LucasArts
Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings - Late Spring

Codemasters Inc
Overlord Dark Legend - Summer

Nintendo
Excitebots: Trick Racing - April 20
Punch-Out!! - May 18

SEGA
The Conduit - June

Now of course I have to explain why I'm excited about this specific list of games. Firstly, these games are all games headlining on the Wii. I didn't list any multi-platform games here because I can't get excited about games on the Wii I can play on an HD console. I also didn't list any games including the words “Yu-Gi-Oh”, “Dance”, “Garfield”, or any combination of “M&M”s and “Jelly Belly”.  Two of the ones I chose are remakes of classic games, three are sequels, and two are new forays into the gaming world.

Ready 2 Rumble Revolution - I loved the first Ready 2 Rumble and spent many hours enjoying the bouts between friends with the well balanced fight system and crazy awesome art design. I'm super pumped about this release and will definitely keep an eye on it and the reviews closer to release.

BOOM BLOX Bash Party
- Boom Blox numero uno was a hidden gem. It was a modern Jenga that managed to find a way to turn something super simply into a great little game. The multiplayer gametypes were super versatile and allowed anyone to jump in and understand what was going on. Great controls as well, and it needed them.

Grand Slam Tennis
– EA's first venture into the tennis world, Grand Slam Tennis will use the new Wii Motion Plus add-on. EA is usually very good at providing a solid sports gaming experience, and Tennis games on the Wii could be awesome if done correctly. Here's your chance Electronic Arts!

Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings
- Now I know what you might be thinking, “What's a game like this doing on this list?!” Truth is, I can't wait to play an Indiana Jones game that doesn't have bricks in it. Especially when it doesn't steal its story from a movie...

Overlord: Dark Legend – Overlord is a great series by a great developer in Codemasters. I'm glad Wii users are going to finally be able to enjoy this great pikmin-esque game on their system of choice now.

Excitebots: Trick Racing – Eh, could be interesting. We'll see. At least it has the word “excite” in it. :)

Punch-Out!! - Similar to Ready 2 Rumble, Punch-Out!! is a remake that is long overdue. Of course, if you have played Punch-Out!! on the NES, you know that Nintendo doesn't have a lot to go off of. Expect this to be hit or miss. I'll pick up Ready 2 Rumble Revolution before this.

The Conduit - This is a potentially exciting game. Claiming to have the Wii control scheme for FPSs down pat, The Conduit has a lot to prove since getting FPS controls perfect has so far been an imperfect science.

So that is my list and explanation for why they are there. Not too shabby for the slow months of the gaming year. I still would've liked to see at least one established Nintendo series title, or even Wii Beach Sports, included on the list. Overall though, I'll make it through and I will take back some of what I accused Nintendo of last week. Keep up the good work so far...and don't disappoint me!

For the Conduit... if I still have to point at the sides of the screen to turn, it will be a total failure.

I didn't realize that the Wii controls would limit FPS' so much. Is it the vertical movement that is hard to implement? I'd assume the joystick moves your legs(leftstick), the wii mote controls cursor/cross-hair(rightstick)? I've yet to play an FPS on the wii so maybe I'm missing something here.
