Top Ten Tuesdays Special Edition: Rejected Beatles

It's here. So what am I gonna do? Jump right to the negative. I'm counting down the top ten songs by the classic band that didn't make it onto the disc. Yeah, it's a buzz kill, I know. I just haven't had time to compile a top ten favorites list yet. Also, I look at it more as a template Harmonix can base future DLC off of, free of charge. I promise this'll make you popular with the Beatles fans, guys.
And here... we... screw it, I'm going to play. I'LL FINISH THIS LATER.

Top Ten Beatles Songs That Didn't Make the Cut

#10: "Blackbird"

We always need more acoustic songs, and this seems like it would be a great counterpoint to all the fist-pumping crowd favorites. Something nice and quiet to throw in to signal a mid-setlist tone change. I would have gotten behind it.

Revolver
#9: "She Said She Said"

I really, really, REALLY adore Revolver; they handled it remarkably well (in lieu of a full download, obviously), but there's still one or two missing. And the guitar is one of the few I think would be genuinely fun, even if by some miracle you aren't a Beatles fan (if you aren't, question: why are you both reading this article and playing the game?)

#8: "Strawberry Fields Forever"

It meets the pre-req of actually HAVING all the instrument parts, but would mainly be on here because holy shit, how great would it be to have Strawberry Fields Forever on Rock Band? Think of the amazing imagery that would come from it, for one thing. And then think about singing it. And keep doing that until you *ahem* finish.

#7: "Hold Me Tight"

Great harmonies? Yup. Fantastic song? Obviously. Good instruments? Fo sho. On the disc, then, right?... Right?

#6: "Help!"

My roommate's mouth actually fell open when he heard this wasn't in the game. I mean, we're talking fly swallowing territory here. And that really is the only response to it. It's the perfect Rock Band song, regardless of how "good" a Beatles song it is, but it's also one of their mega hits. And what's weirder is that it's not even announced as DLC. Someone care to explain this to me?

LetItBe
#5: "Across the Universe"

Like they couldn't have created an absolutely classic stage out of this? Or were they just too embarrassed that it shares its name now with a movie that's as shitty as the song is brilliant. And for those not paying attention, that's a WHOLE LOT.

#4: "It Won't Be Long"

Another one that just rushes out of the gate. And while the guitar part might be a little repetitive (and really, what Beatles song isn't gonna be?), it would still be a lot of fun to play, sing, and perform. I still won't be happy until I get it.

#3: "Happiness Is a Warm Gun"

Honestly, I'd take this or the absolute home run of a cover that The Breeders have on their (brilliant) debut album. If all they want are the rights and not the song itself, bring on more Kim Deal. Or better yet, have a two-pack. I think I would choke on my own excitement... the song itself is such a great, unsettling tune anyway. One of my absolute favorite Beatles jams.

al2
#2: "All My Loving"

Yet another of my very favorite Beatles songs that, for no real reason, was passed over. It's got good parts on everything, is a fast paced tune, and is just generally fantastic... and yet, nothing. (Also, yes, I am probably the biggest fan of "With the Beatles" you're likely to find among hardcore fans. As such, I can't help myself dominating this list with it when they pick one of its worst songs as the sole representation.)

abbey_road
#1: "Oh! Darling"

The bite of this #1 pick is lessened greatly by the fact that it's confirmed to hit as DLC. In fact, as a piece of Abbey Road, it's in the first bit of Beatle DLC that will be released (excepting "All You Need Is Love"). That said, I am still absolutely puzzled as to why this got cut, particularly in favor of other AR tunes like "Something" and "Octapus's Garden;" I mean, I know you can get a really nice level out of Ringo's cute little tune, but that's no excuse for denying what is likely the greatest Beatles song ever the space on the disc.

What's your favorite song by the "greatest band in the world"? What are you confused on, what do you THINK I'm wrong about but really just need convincing about, etc. Leave all that noise in the comment section. Because contrary to what my snarky tone might suggest, we really do love your comments.
