Yep... it seems that Microsoft truly is milking the Avatar system for everything it's worth. First, Microsoft allowed people to purchase clothing for their virtual counterparts, followed by props. Now, Microsoft will let everyone buy their own pet for 240 Microsoft Points. Yes, a pet. According to the press release, your virtual pet will await you whenever you sign into your Xbox Live profile. The list of purchasable pets includes the following:

• Large Dog
• Pug Dog
• Dog in Bag
• Cat
• Siamese Cat
• Long Haired Cat
• Goldfish
• Guinea Pig
• Pony
• Monkey
• Bird
• Snake

You can also get a free Chocobo pet by registering here. The pet bonanza will overtake Xbox Live this Thursday, December 3.

Philip: Wow...just, wow. Okay, some people may think that virtual pets are adorable for a virtual character. However, the animal will probably just make a few movements and a few sounds, and then what? How will it be worth $3 of your REAL money? Hopefully, these pets will do more than just walk around for show, but I'm skeptical. Then again, I can't judge since I purchased a Big Daddy helmet and a COG Armor suit to personalize my Avatar, so you can be the judge.

I think this is brilliant... all one has to do is play some 1 vs 100 to see just how much money MS is making off these paid add ons and lets be honest... girlfriends and wives will want a pet. I can see 2 or 3 that I am gonna have to buy... its smart, give them credit.
