Microsoft Patents 'Super Guide' System for Xbox Live

According to Siliconera, writing and contributing game guides for online sites can become a thing of the past for Xbox Live gamers. A new patent filed by Microsoft's Director of Games Platform Strategy Andre Vrignaud reveals the company has a new, in-game guide system for the Xbox 360 in the development oven. The patent allows players to access a detailed database of tips and strategies while playing a game on Xbox Live. Things can get even more interesting since players have the option to create their own guides by capturing screenshots, video clips, and even add voice commentary. Developers also have the option to create their own guides for their games, which can be featured higher than user-created ones.

Philip: If this is free and turns out to be 100% true, I will be a very happy person. Imagine how helpful this would have been if you never needed to access your computer whenever you wanted to find the next Hidden Orb in Crackdown. Of course, this can put famous game guide publications like Prima and Brady Games out of business, unless these publications begin making money off of making accessible guides using this function. Regardless, this is definitely a feature I hope will be integrated into Xbox Live sometime in 2010.
