Agreed...I'm currently on my 3rd playthrough of ME1, and trying to max out my "Renegade" level this time (it's kinda fun being a complete a-hole to the galaxy).
Now I'm just worried that my evil character will be the one that gets ported-over to the new game.

This has been confirmed before, and I want to help others understand it as well. It doesn't matter what kind of character you have; the save file that you load when you begin Mass Effect 2 will be the character that you start out with. So, say I played through the game one time as a good guy, but in my second playthrough, I made him an evil douche. Which one will carry over? The most recent specific character file will be the one to carry over. So if you load saved data with a villain, you'll have yourself a villain. If you load saved data with a hero, you'll have a hero. So if you want your main character to carry over in Mass Effect 2, make sure you have made your last playthrough the one you want when it comes to Shepard's choices.

oh man...then I'll have to do a 4th playthrough once I get the "douchebag" achievement
